The official website for Toei Animation's television adaptation of the Kaidan Restaurant (Thriller Restaurant) horror storybook series has opened with a 15-second promotional video. (In the linked page, select the television icon on the bottom.) The anime will premiere on October 13.
Each episode will consist of three stories or "dishes": the appetizer, the main dish, and dessert. The first two "dishes" will deal with an ordinary sixth-grade schoolgirl named Ako Ōzora and the bizarre occurrences that befall her and her classmates. The third "dish" will be a standalone short ghost story told by Ako and her friends.
Miyoko Matsutani (Maegami-Taro, Mizu no Tane, Taro the Dragon Boy) has been editing the books since 1996 with illustrations by Yoshikazu Takai and Kumiko Kato, and Doshinsha has published over seven million copies so far. Yoko Ikeda is directing the anime version, and Shoji Yonemura (Guin Saga, Glass Fleet, Stitch!) is supervising the scripts.
